Why Action Karate

The Skills They Learn Here Follow Them Everywhere

Phillipsburg families don’t just choose us for the sport. They choose us because of what happens after class. The focus that shows up in the classroom. The respect that makes dinnertime easier. The confidence that finally gets them to raise their hand.

They learn to listen the first time

Every drill, every class, every instructor interaction is built around respectful attention and kids take that habit home without even realizing it.

They discover what they're capable of

Progress at Action Karate is visible and earned. When a child earns a new belt, they know it was real and that feeling changes how they see themselves.

They find their people

With 186 active students and a close-knit Warren County community, this isn't just a class. It's a crew your child will grow up with.

My daughter has been here for 3 weeks so far. The teachers see every child and will help them individually or in a smaller group setting so they can get the technique down correctly! Everyone is so encouraging and engaging. My youngest loves coming to class to watch her sister and play with the other kids. Definitely bring your kiddos here.

Action Karate Phillipsburg has been an absolutely wonderful experience for our family. Our son has been attending for two years, and the confidence and strength he has gained is incredible.

The instructors — Mr. Bittner, Ms. Khura, Ms. Miranda, Ms. Michelle, and Ms. Erika — are all fantastic. They are encouraging, patient, and truly care about the kids. Our son went from being nervous to even step on the mats to confidently volunteering to lead the student creed and demonstrate exercises.

He also loves the Parent’s Night Out events and day camps that Action Karate offers. He literally counts down the days until the next one. The entire team makes this such a positive and welcoming place. We are so happy to be part of the Action Karate family and highly recommend them.

Our family absolutely loves Action Karate! The lessons and practices are perfect for our son. And the instructors are so kind but also know how to direct the kids to refocus. We’ve had a wonderful couple of weeks and signed up for a year!

Addison (my 5 year old shy kindergartener who was scared to start school.) found Action Karate at a school assembly and she LOVED it. So we went ahead and did a trial class to see what her thoughts were. She was reserved at first and quickly started to blossom and grow. She’s having so much fun coming home and showing her newly learned moves and loves Ms Khura. At action karate they are very great at teaching your child really important life skills as well as the cool moves and karate discipline.

Alyssa (11) & Collin (10) have grown deeply in their connection to themselves since starting karate. They are more aware of wanting to do better, be better. A&C were already structured military kids prior to joining but it has been beautiful to see how someone else’s structure is able to positively impact them even further. This is my favorite thing about AK- Phillipsburg.

The confidence that Alyssa has gained from working hard at her skills learned here has been monumental. It has helped her to come out of her quiet shell.

The fact that they are able to maintain Collin’s focus would be unbelievable if I didn’t witness his growth myself. Collin has a critical, genetic, & catastrophic seizure disorder (Dravet Syndrome). With this comes global developmental delays with both fine & gross motor skills. Couple that with his Autism and these instructors are miracle workers. I love that we feel they love my children.

Meet the Team

Choosing a martial arts school is about more than the curriculum. Here’s why Bethlehem families train with us.

Our Story

A School Built on More Than Belts

Action Karate Phillipsburg opened in 2023 with a simple belief that every child in Warren County deserves access to the kind of training that builds character, not just technique. In two and a half years, that belief has built something real: a thriving school, a tight-knit community, and one of the most active partnership networks in the region.

When families needed support, we were already in the room, running programs at the Firth Youth Center, partnering with the Phillipsburg Housing Authority’s EnVision Center, and showing up at school fairs, scout troops, and daycare ceremonies.
From Cub Scout Pack 54 to Girl Scouts Troop 95432, from Norwescap to NJ4S, Action Karate Phillipsburg has made a deliberate choice to serve the whole community, including underserved families and adults with developmental delays.
The Stronger Together program at Firth Youth Center provides six weeks of free family karate classes for children with additional needs. Because this mat belongs to them, too.
We are 185+ active students strong, and growing. Because word travels fast in a community where the results are real.

Martial arts helped shape my confidence, discipline, and mindset growing up, and I wanted to be able to pass that on and make that same impact on my students.
