About me
Sensei Tristan McGiboney brings seven years of Action Karate experience and the heart of a 3rd Degree Black Belt to every class at Action Karate Telford. Before stepping onto the mat as an instructor, she worked as a nurse: a background that quietly shaped the patience, attentiveness, and genuine care she brings to her students every day. As a mother herself, Tristan knows firsthand what martial arts can do for a child’s confidence, self-discipline, and sense of self. And she shows up determined to give every student that same experience.
Teaching philosophy
Sensei Tristan believes that growth looks different for every student and that comparison is the enemy of real progress. Her philosophy is simple but powerful: show up, encourage honestly, and measure each student only against who they were yesterday. She creates an environment where questions are welcome, effort is celebrated, and no one feels the pressure of keeping pace with anyone else.
That approach is especially meaningful with kids in the 7–12 age group, where Tristan sees the greatest opportunity for transformation. These students are curious, capable, and beginning to understand how the world works, which makes every class a chance to shape how they see themselves in it. Tristan doesn’t just teach kicks and forms; she teaches kids to persist when something is hard, to lead when they feel ready, and to carry the discipline they build on the mat into every part of their lives. For her, the moment a student who once barely made eye contact steps forward to lead a drill, that’s what martial arts is really about.
