About me
Lucas came to karate from a soccer background and discovered something unexpected along the way: a martial art he could truly call his own. Six years and a 1st Degree Black Belt later, he brings that same sense of personal ownership to the Telford mat every time he teaches. A proud member of the demo team and a self-taught kata creator, Lucas has a natural connection with teens, and a genuine belief that every student deserves to find their own rhythm in the art. When he’s not in the dojo, you’ll find him outside with friends and family, on the volleyball court, or working on his next kata.

Teaching philosophy
Lucas Casillo didn’t fall in love with karate right away and he’s honest about that. It wasn’t until he stopped going through the motions and started developing his own style that the art truly clicked for him. That turning point shapes everything about the way he teaches today. His goal isn’t to produce technically perfect students who look like everyone else. It’s to help each person he works with understand why a technique works, and then find the version of it that feels right for them.
Lucas tends to connect most naturally with teens, students who are close to his own experience and speak a similar language. He explains concepts in ways that land for that age group, without talking down or over-explaining. At the same time, he carries real patience for students who aren’t having fun yet, because he knows from personal experience that the breakthrough is possible. His motto says it plainly: Grit Before Quit.
