Why Action Karate

Because Kids Deserve More Than Another After-School Activity

We don’t just teach martial arts. We develop the habits, mindset, and resilience that will serve your child for the rest of their life.

Confidence That Goes Beyond the Dojo

When a child earns a new stripe or masters a technique they once thought was impossible, something shifts in them. They start believing they can handle hard things: in school, in friendships, and in themselves. That belief doesn't stay on the mat; it follows them everywhere.

Discipline Without the Power Struggle

Getting your child to focus, follow instructions, or push through frustration at home can feel like an uphill battle. Our structured classes build self-discipline naturally, through positive reinforcement and consistent routine, so the respect and focus you want to see at home starts showing up there too.

Respect That's Earned, Not Demanded

Respect isn't something we demand from students. It's something we model and build every single class. From bowing to their instructor to encouraging a teammate, students learn that respect is a strength, not just a rule.

Our Space

A Space Designed for Focus, Movement, and Growth

From the moment you walk through our doors, you’ll feel the difference: a clean, professional, purpose-built space where students can train safely, focus fully, and feel proud to be part of something.

Our Son’s Karate Journey

Kal-El was 9 at the beginning of his karate journey. He was having a tough time in 4th grade due to bullying. His Dad and I had discussed starting him in Karate, not knowing at the time if it would help or not. He began his karate journey at the end of 2023. He was definitely was a timid child, so we weren’t sure if registering him in Karate would actually be beneficial towards boosting his self confidence. Little did we know this kid would prevail way above our expectations. He took the program serious from day one and put so much effort into making sure he advanced in his class. He was given the opportunity to perform in his first tournament in 2024. He practiced as best as he could to prepare for it. When tournament time came, I remember him looking so nervous that he actually didn’t want to talk much. When I tell you as SOON as he hit that performance mat, saying he completely SHOCKED us is an understatement! This kid transformed into a confident, serious as ever, not here to play any games performer!! His first tournament he received 2nd place and his next tournament he received 1st place!!! I know in my son’s eyes, karate was an excellent choice! In our eyes, we our so proud of his new-found confidence he exudes!

Action Karate Bethlehem came onsite to do a karate workshop for our Girl Scouts troop, ages 5-9. The content was age-appropriate and so much fun! Thank you to the fabulous instructors for teaching our girls confidence and how to defend themselves. Highly recommend for all local troop leaders!

OMG I LOVED it here!! 💖
Everyone is super sweet, welcoming, and full of good vibes. I usually feel picked on or out of place, but here I genuinely felt comfortable and included. It honestly felt like a wholesome anime arc IRL ✨
Student Mrs. A was amazing — super encouraging and invited me to jump in even though I originally came just to watch. That meant a lot to me 🥹
Ms. Casey is a legend. She gave me a free uniform and 2 weeks of unlimited classes, which was such a kind boost for someone shy and nervous like me. That level of generosity really stood out.
The environment is very neurodivergent-friendly. I felt respected, supported, and like I actually belonged. Everyone hypes each other up in a really positive, healthy way. Also… the shark logo and merch are awesome. 🦈
I was going through a rough patch in late 2024, and this place genuinely helped lift my spirits. There’s very little negativity here — just kindness, motivation, and people respecting each other.

Highlights:
• 2-week unlimited trial
• Supportive instructors
• Neurodivergent-friendly atmosphere
• Strong community / found-family vibes

Instructor Johnny said, “Keep going, never stop training, keep that spirit alive,” and that really stuck with me.

I also came back for the Turkey Workout 2025, and it was great as always 🦃

Overall, this is a fantastic school. I highly recommend it and am seriously considering training here more in the future.

Our 5 year old daughter has enjoyed participating in her trainings two times a week, has done other special events they've offered, and we love how the young energetic teachers take turns leading during the trainings.

We went to a birthday party at action karate and joined the 2 weeks free and ended up signing up my 2 grandsons. In 2 1/2 months my grandsons confidence and being more out going have progressed to better level. They have made friends and have learned how to ask for help when needed. They competed in the karate tournament and have even graduated to there next belt. Now they have been invited to join black belt leadership they are excited. I also have joined during the free month and I am enjoying the classes. The instructors are amazing with the kids very patient and calming demeanor to them. I can’t wait to learn more.

Action Karate has truly been a life-changing experience for my child and myself! From the very first class, the instructors were welcoming, professional, and incredibly motivating. They create a structured yet fun environment where students not only learn martial arts but also build confidence, discipline, and respect, both for themselves and others.

The instructors, specially Mr. Byron take the time to know each child’s strengths and challenges, encouraging growth at every level. My child has learned how to focus better.

If you’re looking for a martial arts program that goes beyond kicks and punches, and actually helps shape character and confidence, Action Karate is the place to be. We couldn’t be happier!

Our curriculum isn’t just about belts. It’s a structured pathway that progressively builds physical skill, emotional regulation, and personal accountability in every student who steps through our doors.
Students burn energy, build strength, and improve coordination without even realising they’re “working out.” Parents often tell us it’s the one activity their child never wants to miss.

Martial arts teaches children how to handle setbacks gracefully, whether that’s a technique that takes weeks to master or a tough day at school. They learn that effort matters more than perfection.

Joining Action Karate Bethlehem means joining a family. Our students cheer each other on, our instructors know every child by name, and our parents become part of something bigger than any single class.

Martial arts helped shape my confidence, discipline, and mindset growing up, and I wanted to be able to pass that on and make that same impact on my students.

FAQ

FAQs Got Questions? We've Got Answers. Here are the things Bethlehem families ask us most.

At Action Karate Bethlehem, we teach Tang Soo Do — a Korean martial art that develops real coordination, focus, discipline, and practical self-defence skills in a structured, positive class environment. One of the things that sets this location apart is our dedicated special needs class, held on Thursdays. It's an intentional offering, not an afterthought, and it speaks to how this school thinks about who martial arts is for. If your child has additional needs, that class is worth a conversation before you commit to anything.
We run classes across the week including our Thursday special needs class. Use the form on this page to get the full current schedule sent to your inbox.
Just come comfortable. For your first session at Action Karate Bethlehem, loose clothing you can move in is all you need. Your uniform (gi) is included in the $49 intro offer once you join. Bare feet on the mat, no shoes required.
Action Karate Bethlehem runs programs from age 3 through to adults, and serves families from William Penn Elementary, Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Fountain Hill Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Spring Garden Elementary, and Governor Wolf Elementary — all of which are also active school partners. The Thursday special needs class is open to students who benefit from a smaller, specifically structured environment. Ask us about it when you get in touch.
